Cheap Hotels in Manchester
The city of Manchester, fondly known as ‘the capital of the north’, is located in the North West of England, between Liverpool and Leeds. Manchester is most famous for its football teams, the Gallagher brothers, as well as the implausible amount of rainfall it receives throughout the year. Manchester has an enviable music heritage too, and everything a city needs to produce and support good music. Manchester once had a negative reputation related to its industrial past, but with recent investment in the city's regeneration, and the great number of old large venues, stylish new bars, friendly local promoters and labels, and urban music festivals, things have dramatically changed in the last decade and now the city has a vibrant, exciting air. There are hundreds of hotels in Manchester with everything from five star luxury hotels and boutique hotels in the city centre to cosy bed and breakfasts in the countryside.
Manchester's City Centre offers accommodations to suit all budgets that are convenient to many local points of interest. If you are on a relatively tight budget, then there are many cheap and moderately priced hotels close to or within the City Centre itself. The Hotel International is a popular choice with rail travelers, because of close proximity to Piccadilly Station. It is also a five minutes walk away from some of the main shopping and entertainment venues of Manchester. The elegant Princess Hotel, on Portland Street, has its own exclusive nightclub and is also close to Chinatown. Most of the nice, reasonably-priced hotels in Manchester are in the outlying districts. On leafy Barlow Moor Road in West Didsbury, are to be found a number of small, family-operated hotels, offering good facilities at competitive prices. Two of the best are Bourneville Hotel and Green Gables Guest House. In the less fashionable areas of northern Manchester, even better value are the friendly guest houses and small hotels like Harpers Hotel in Harpurhey.
If you are looking to stay in the heart of the town, Manchester City Hotels always provide a great value solution. There are some high quality, cheap hotel pub accommodations in the Manchester City Centre, including the Burton Arms Hotel near Victoria Station, The Crown Inn on Deansgate, and New Union on Canal Street. If you are looking for a more traditional, family-run hotel, you should try Monroes Hotel, close to Piccadilly Station, or the Mitre Hotel, which is located on the grounds of Manchester Cathedral. Central Manchester is home to the flagship YHA, near some of the city's best nightlife. Sporting aficionados can check out the Old Trafford Lodge, just a short walk from both Lancashire County Cricket Club and Manchester United FC. For anyone specifically interested in Premiership football Manchester United and Manchester City hotels are ideally situated for both Old Trafford and the City of Manchester Stadium.
Manchester is now a well established shopping town and with the state of the art G-Mex centre, which hosts a number of conferences and exhibitions its reputation for business is constantly growing. Further from the center you can enjoy the great food and eccentric charm of the Albany Hotel in Chorlton, or the exceptional facilities of the Britannia Hotelin Stockport, which is a wonderful tourist base for visiting the Peak District, and is also close to the airport. For those traveling by car, the Novotel Manchester West is just 7 miles from the City Centre on the M60 motorway. If you wish to stay in the pleasant countryside along the city's outskirts, there are plenty of options in the suburbs of Stockport, Bolton, Altrincham and near the Manchester International Airport.
