Cheap Hotels in Nice
Nice is located on the French Riviera in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Blessed by a sunny, temperate climate, Nice attracts visitors from around the world. Nice is simply a delight, with its flower market, great shopping, and cafes and brasseries, where you can sip drinks, or enjoy delightful pastries just feet away from the gorgeous Mediterranean coastline. All types of hotel accommodation is available in and around Nice. From budget, cheap hotels to elegant seaside five-star resorts, a great variety and excellent accommodation is available for all budgets.
With its climate, the average temperature being above 10°C all year round, its carnival, cuisine and architectural heritage, Nice is definitely a place where people know how to live and enjoy life. Despite it being the fifth largest town of France, with the second largest airport, Nice sometimes takes on the appearance of a sleeping princess. For it has also been described as a place, where it seems as if time has stood still.
Nice's position on the Mediterranean coast also means that the city has plenty of good beaches, splendid views and some delightful seafront promenades. Nice has a great many tourist attractions to offer its visitors throughout the year. For tourists who prefer city attractions, including its historic buildings and parks, then Nice certainly has these in abundance. Nice is a major transportation hub in Europe. The low-cost airlines now offer frequent flights to the Nice Cote d'Azur Airport from London, Paris and other cities. A High-speed rail service is also available to Nice from Paris. Many visitors to Nice enjoy a day excursion to the city state of Monte Carlo, Monaco or the seaside town of Antibes. Other visitors of this French Riviera city enjoy a tip to Cannes, France, the town which hosts the world-famous Cannes Film Festival each spring.
The city has two important historic centres: the Cimiez hill, where the remains of Roman occupation can still be found and the old Nice that is almost completely pedestrian. The rest of the town consists mostly of beautiful old bourgeois buildings of the last century. Very few recent constructions can be seen except at Cimiez and the Lanterne quarter that is know as the "Beverly Hills" of Nice. Fans of belle epoque architecture should choose Nice's most famous hotel, the impressive and aged Negresco. This hotel occupies a place of pride on the city's magnificent seaside walkway, the Promenade des Anglais and is among the most expensive hotels in the city, with good reason, since every one of its rooms offers a panoramic sea view.
If you want a good view of the sea in the background, go into the Nice hills, somewhere like Cimiez. But then you are several kilometers from the centre, and buses stop about 8.30 pm, while Nice taxis are notoriously expensive. And there are two types of sea view in Nice, some claim: distant and noisy. Promenade des Anglais is basically a good location - but beware! The Promenade des Anglais is over four miles long and if you get the wrong end of it you are miles away from the action.
With its high Italian façades, the old Nice is a real labyrinth of alleys and stepped streets that are sometimes quiet, and completely packed at other times. The Place Masséna links the old Nice to the commercial heart of the town, with its arched blocks of flats and red facades all dating back to the 19th century. To get to the beachfront, it is ideal to take a walk through the Albert I gardens, park with many exotic tree species.
The following two or three star hotels, are well-maintained and good values, in the lower price bracket, but still more centrally located. The beautiful ochre-colored facade of the Paradis Hotel can be found in the pedestrianized precinct. Its comfy rooms are very welcoming and some even come with a balcony. This smaller hotel, the Hotel Normandie is both a friendly and comfortable place to stay. And Hotel Apogia is another three star accommodation option, which is close to the peaceful port area. The area around the train station also has a large number of hotels. The large hotel, Ibis, with 199 rooms, represents good value for money. This area is also home to some of the more inexpensive accommodation in the city.
